Overview

This Sound Design Masterclass is designed to expand your Sound Design creativity and know-how, while preparing you to train your students in the art and craft of Sound Design for narrative film and TV.

Facilitated by David Sonnenschein, author of “Sound Design: The Expressive Power of Music, Voice and Sound Effects”, and Joel Krantz, Avid Master Instructor and author of Avid Pro Tools curriculum, participants will explore the physics, neuroscience, psychology, technology, team collaboration, listening skills and storytelling craft that defines a top-of-the-game professional sound designer. Be prepared for ear-opening lectures and demos, with tons of hands-on experience and one-on-one feedback.

Attendees are expected to already have a working knowledge of Pro Tools (Certified Level 100), though certification is not necessary. As this is a moderately advanced class covering lots of ground, it is highly recommended to have at least 3 years of sound editing/mixing and/or music composition/engineering and/or teaching experience.

By the conclusion of the course, all attendees will complete a short soundtrack based on the principles, exercises, experimentations and feedback, which can be used in your classes for demo purposes.

In this course, you will also learn the design of the courseware, materials for presentation, and methodologies for implementing the content into an academic curriculum and join in discussions on best practices for teaching these topics and lessons.
